S.O.R The Recovery Stack

Post-workout shower: the 5-minute skincare routine

You're showering after training anyway. Five minutes, give or take. Most people spend it thinking about dinner. This is how to use it.

State of Recovery (S.O.R) is a 3-step skincare routine built for people who train: gel and scrub in the shower, moisturiser after. Magnesium, arnica and menthol, and no extra time on top of the shower you already take.

The short answer

Shower after every session. Gel every time, scrub 2-3 times a week, moisturiser once you've towelled off.

That's the whole routine. 1,350mg of magnesium across the full 3 steps, inside the 5 minutes you were going to spend anyway.

The basics come first.

Eat, drink water, sleep, and keep your programming sensible. If something hurts rather than just feeling worked, see a physio or your doctor. A skincare routine sits alongside the basics. It doesn't stand in for them.

The 5-minute version

Minute by minute.

0:00-2:00 · gel

Rinse off, then the gel. A clear gel that lathers to a white foam. Work it over whatever you trained. The cooling hits from the first lather.

2:00-4:00 · scrub, on scrub days

The exfoliating step, with arnica in the formula. Small circles over legs, back and shoulders, then rinse. 2-3 times a week, so most days this minute is free.

4:00-4:30 · rinse and towel

Rinse everything off. Towel dry.

4:30-5:00 · moisturiser

After the shower. Work it into legs and shoulders before you get dressed. It stays on.

Gym shower or home shower.

Gym shower: gel and scrub in, moisturiser on before you change, out the door. All 3 tubes fit in a gym bag. Home shower: the same 3 steps, with more time for the moisturiser. Leg day version: after leg day.

Morning session or evening session.

Lead with after training, whenever that is. Morning session: shower, moisturiser, work. Evening session: shower, moisturiser, dinner. If you train early and shower again at night, the evening shower can carry the full 3 steps.

FAQ

Should I shower straight after training or wait?

Whenever suits you. Straight after at the gym, or when you get home. The routine is the same either way.

Do I use it after every session?

The gel and the moisturiser, yes: every shower. The scrub 2-3 times a week. On rest days, gel and moisturiser are enough.

I only have 2 minutes. Which step?

The gel in the shower and the moisturiser after. Skip the scrub that day.

Morning or evening session?

Lead with after training, whenever that is. If you train in the morning, an evening shower with the moisturiser after is fine too.
